Balcony storage cabinet: measure, assemble and check exposure

A balcony cabinet must fit the alcove and leave room for doors to move. Its base and the balcony conditions must also suit the product. Check these details before delivery.

Check the location, access and intended use before assembly.

Measure the route and the final position

Measure the doorway height and width, alcove depth and remaining walkway. Check whether long panels can pass through the door and turn on the balcony. Leave clearance for windows, the balcony door and cabinet doors; the listed cabinet width may not include handles or skirting.

Consider the floor, water and airflow

Balcony floors may slope, and rain or washing can bring water into the proposed area. Check the product guidance to see whether the cabinet is intended for those conditions and whether adjustable feet are allowed. Do not block ventilation openings or place furniture where water regularly collects.

Follow the manual before anchoring

Lay out the parts and compare them with the manufacturer's list before assembly. Follow the sequence and avoid overtightening; a cabinet can become out of square when panels are pulled together on an uneven floor. If the model requires wall anchoring, choose fixings for the wall material; a supplied strap does not establish that the substrate is suitable.

Prepare details for a quote

Share the cabinet model, package dimensions, balcony photos and access information. Clarify whether moving boxes, assembling multiple units, adjusting doors and removing packaging are included. Check the manufacturer's manual for permitted exposure and ongoing care.

Common questions

Can a standard cabinet be used on an open balcony?

That depends on the materials and limits stated by its manufacturer. Do not assume a product is weather-resistant just because an advertisement calls it a balcony cabinet.

Does every tall cabinet need wall anchoring?

Follow the product manual and consider the assembled unit's stability and wall material. Use fixings suited to the substrate and agree on the approach before use if anything is uncertain.

Can the cabinet be assembled before carrying it onto the balcony?

Packages may fit through a doorway even when the assembled unit cannot turn in a narrow space. Measure the whole route and turning area before starting.
