Mounting a towel rail and shelf on tile: layout and fixings
A shelf and towel rail are small fixtures, yet misplaced holes are difficult to undo. Check reach, clearances and the wall behind the tile before marking the positions.
Choose a usable position first
Hold the items against the wall and check clearance from the tap, shower screen, mirror and doors. A damp towel takes more room than an empty rail. Lay out all accessories together so they do not collide and the arrangement remains comfortable to use.
Tile is only the wall's outer layer
Behind tile may be concrete, brick, hollow block or board; the appropriate fixing depends on that substrate. Consider likely service routes and visible plumbing or electrical points before drilling. A grout line or a spot that looks far from a tap is not proof that the area is clear. If pipe routes are unknown, assess the risk first.
Reduce the chance of chipping
Choose fixings for the product instructions and wall material, rather than relying only on the hole size in the accessory. Tile needs a suitable bit and drilling mode with no hammer action on the finish. Near an edge or an old hole, proceed especially carefully because brittle tile can crack.
What affects the installation quote
The number of fixtures, their size, the substrate, tile condition and removal of old hardware affect the scope. Say whether the products and fixings are already available. If a tile is cracked or a fitting has pulled out, inspect the area before covering it with a new plate.

Common questions
Can a fitting go directly over a grout joint?
That depends on the fitting, joint width and condition. Decide from the product and substrate; a grout line alone does not guarantee a secure fixing.
Will the universal plugs in the box work?
Not always. Supplied hardware may be intended for a particular substrate. Check the wall type and the manufacturer's guidance first.
Can a shelf be attached without drilling?
Some products are designed for adhesive mounting, but load limits and suitability for a wet area come from the manufacturer. Keep loads off until the stated curing time has passed.
