Flat-pack furniture is missing parts: what to check before assembly

A missing screw pack or damaged side panel can stop assembly even when the installer is available. A simple check before the visit helps, but opening every pack at random or substituting unidentified hardware can create more problems.

Compare part numbers, not just quantities

Find the instructions for the exact item number and furniture version. Match the package list, panel numbers and hardware codes. Keep small bags separate from those belonging to other furniture. Two similar-looking screws may have different lengths; a correct total count does not by itself mean that the right hardware is present.

Keep labels and document damage

Photograph the box label, part number and defect next to a ruler. Retain packaging until the contents and seller contact arrangements have been checked. If an edge is damaged, a fixing hole broken or a panel cracked, do not force assembly to continue. Establish which component needs replacement and whether other stages can be completed safely.

A random screw is not necessarily a replacement

Cam fittings, connectors and runners are designed around specified parts. An unsuitable screw length can mark the visible surface, while an incorrect connector may not form the intended joint. Agree substitutions against the instructions and actual dimensions. Do not assume an installer carries every unique component used in a particular furniture range.

Avoid an unproductive appointment

For wardrobe assembly in Petah Tikva, send Dima the item number, instructions and a missing-parts list. Say whether a replacement has been ordered from the seller. If partial assembly is possible, agree which stages to complete and whether a second visit is needed. Parts delivery, damage repairs and full assembly are distinct tasks whose scope should be clarified in advance.

What to send the handyman

  • Furniture item number and the relevant instruction cover.
  • List and labels of all delivered packages.
  • Missing or damaged part numbers and clear photos.
  • Replacement-order status, assembly space and city.

Common questions

Should I open every box before the visit?

Agree preparation first. Check package labels and available information; random unpacking increases the chance of mixing or losing parts.

Will the installer bring missing hardware?

Only after the particular part has been identified and its availability confirmed. A general hardware kit cannot replace every proprietary connector.

Does the entire appointment need postponing?

Not always. Feasible stages and any return-visit cost should be agreed after assessing the missing component and its role in the structure.
