Mirror behind an entrance door: check the opening arc first

The empty wall behind a door can look like an obvious place for a mirror. Width alone is not enough: the door handle, door edge and projecting mirror frame may meet along the same opening arc. Agree the position before making holes.

Check the door without holding the mirror

Mark the proposed mirror outline on the wall with a light paper template. Carefully follow normal door movement and the handle position without striking the wall. Do not use the real heavy mirror to test the door’s path. Consider opening for cleaning or carrying items through as well as ordinary entry: the partly open position used every day may not represent the door’s full travel.

A paper outline does not reproduce thickness

Record the frame depth and the expected projection from the wall, including its fixings. A flat paper shape cannot show that projection. Photograph the door and wall area from the side, identifying the handle and other projecting pieces. A universal minimum gap cannot be established from a photograph; assess the actual door, mirror and intended use, allowing for real movement rather than treating barely clear as automatically acceptable.

Treat a door stop as a separate decision

If the arrangement relies on a stop, agree its presence, position and fixing method first. An object left on the floor should not be treated as permanent mirror protection. Check that the planned position preserves the passage and access to existing switches. A new door stop may involve separate installation work; do not relocate hardware or alter the door mechanism without discussing it.

Send a mirror-hanging request in Holon

Send Dima a wide hallway view, photographs with the door closed and carefully opened, the mirror dimensions and its manufacturer-stated weight. Include pictures of the supplied hangers and known wall details. Mark your preferred outline but agree final fixing points for the actual product. Relocating the mirror, fitting a door stop and repairing previous holes are included only when separately discussed as part of the job.

What to send the handyman

  • Door closed and carefully opened, photographed from useful angles.
  • Paper outline, mirror dimensions and frame thickness.
  • Product weight and photographs of the actual hangers.
  • Wall material, any existing stop and your city.

Common questions

If the handle misses the paper, will the mirror fit?

Not necessarily. The real mirror and fixings project from the wall. Check their depth against the actual door movement.

Is a temporary object on the floor enough?

It can move and does not replace an agreed permanent stop. Do not rely on a loose object to protect the glass.

Can I drill the template positions first?

Wait until the hangers and final position are agreed. A paper outline helps evaluate placement but does not establish the fixing points for the product.
