Office chair wobbles after assembly: what to check
A chair that rocks after assembly may have a part facing the wrong way, a stem that is not seated or an uneven floor underneath. Start with the manual and the supplied parts.
Check the chair with no one sitting on it
Remove the load and place the chair on a firm, level surface. Check whether the whole base rocks, one caster moves or the seat shifts relative to the mechanism. A thick rug or uneven floor can feel similar, so rule out the surface first.
Compare each part with the manual
Inspect the star base, casters, gas lift and mechanism under the seat. Some parts have a front and back or orientation marks. Follow the diagram; do not hammer the stem into place or try to open a gas lift, which is not designed for user disassembly.
Check fasteners and seating
Confirm that each washer and bolt is in its specified position and that bolt lengths have not been mixed up. Tighten gradually and in sequence as directed; excess force can damage threads or plastic. Do not use the chair if a caster, base or fitting is cracked or the mechanism shifts.
When to reassemble or get help
If parts do not match the diagram, hardware is left over or the chair still leans, stop and share photos. Do not add improvised spacers or drill the base. Include the make and model, what moves and when the wobble began.

Common questions
Can I just tighten every bolt harder?
Only as far as the manual specifies. Excess force can strip a thread, crack plastic or deform a part.
Can I open and fix the gas lift?
Do not open or heat a gas lift. If it is damaged, use a manufacturer-approved replacement or have it assessed.
Why does the chair wobble only on a rug?
Deep pile or an uneven surface can lift individual casters. Compare it on a firm level floor and check that all casters are installed alike.
